Granddaddy Purple, often known as Grand Daddy Purps, is a famous indica strain that has gained much popularity on the West Coast.  In 2003, breeder Ken Estes and his colleagues set out to create the best possible indica hybrid in the San Francisco Bay Area by crossing two strains with exceptional pedigrees: Purple Urkle and Big Bud. The offspring, Granddaddy Purple, displays the best characteristics of both parents, including the dark purple coloration of Purple Urkle. The highly photogenic buds of this plant are a dark purple, which complements the vivid orange hairs & frosted white crystals that cover it abundantly.

Growing Granddaddy Purple Seeds

Although it is possible to cultivate Granddaddy Purple in a garden, indoor cultivation is recommended. When enabled inside, flowering begins around day 70 to 77, and when grown outdoors, harvest typically occurs in early October. Outdoors, the plant’s heavy buds could eventually bring it down. 

The plant, when cultivated indoors, should be stocky & short enough to sustain the weight of the buds, but you should be prepared to provide some support, mainly around the 60-day mark. Indoor yields can exceed 4 oz per plant, while outdoor gains can easily surpass 3 pounds. Maintaining temperatures in the 70s and humidity levels of 50-55% throughout the growth cycle will yield the best results.

This California mainstay gets its complex aroma of grapes and berries from its Afghanistan & Mendo Purps parent strains. In contrast, the Skunk parent strain is responsible for passing on its large, dense bud structure. GDP blooms bloom in various colors of deep purple, providing a dramatic backdrop for the crystal resin that looks like snow covering them.
